We had 2 weeks in Mauritius and not a whole lot planned ...just the way we like it! The first day we got into "beach mode", but the few days following had forecasts of a lot of rain. Dan and his parents scuba dive, so they would take off for a few hours in the morning to do that. After, we spent the afternoons touring the island. We started off visiting Port Louis, the capital and saw where Dad Scott used to work, did some shopping and saw the sights. March 12th was actually Mauritius' Independance Day, so we took part in a ceremony at the hotel.

The hotel was perfect. It was located in Flic en Flac on Tamarin Bay. We had wild dolphins swimming in the bay every morning. Flic en Flac had many luxurious resorts along the beach, but we prefer smaller resorts..it so happened that the resort was only 40% full, so this made it even more "small"! We felt bad for the staff though, they were always looking for something to do i.e. free poolside massages. :) The services and staff were amazing. They offered many free classes and watersports and were so friendly. They enjoyed speaking english to us as most of their clients are French or Italian. Most Mauritians speak Creole, French and English as well as another language.
The food was also amazing. Chef Phillipe was very talented. Breakfast and dinner were included each day; some nights the dinners were a la carte and others were buffet. The buffet nights were always different-Indian, Creole, Mauritian, Italian, BBQ, chinese, etc.
